Freddy and the Fire Nation is a group of Winnipeg musicians playing glitchy, electronic-inspired jazz. Formed during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, Freddy and the Fire Nation is comprised of trumpeter turned bassist Fred Warner, drummer Paul Klassen, guitarist Robert Hunter, pianist Tirian Plett, trumpeter McKenzie Walpole, alto saxophonist Nolan Gottfried, and baritone saxophonist Ava Persaud-Soares.
Their debut record Origin is a cinematic love letter to jazz fusion, featuring heavy guitar grooves and swirling synthesizer pads as well as orchestral instruments and classical motifs. Their upcoming record, In Orbit, continues in this vein, and leans into the band's individual histories of folk music as well as electronica. Freddy and the Fire Nation has appeared at festivals such as Rainbow Trout and Gentlefest, and has supported touring acts such as Five Alarm Funk.
