Devon Gillingham is a musician from Winnipeg. A graduate of The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City, Devon has studied with Ron Carter, Kirk Nurock, George Cables, Harish Ragavan and Becca Stevens, among others.

His study of music began with the piano, and at the age of 16 he received his ARCT in classical piano performance from the Royal Conservatory of Music. In his final year of high school, he was selected as the winner of the first annual Jazz at Lincoln Center Essentially Ellington student composition competition. His piece, “Remember to Forget”, was recorded by Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Known for his energetic playing and versatility as a bassist, Gillingham is also active as a singer-songwriter. His first EP of original music, entitled December, was released in 2019. His debut full length album, Maplewood (made possible with support from the Canada Council for the Arts) was released in December of 2021 on his own label, Hands-Off Records. He will release a follow up later this year.

For his performance as part of this year’s festival, he will be joined by Will Bonness on piano and Kevin Waters on drums.
