About Compost

Compost is nutrient-rich music for a healthy body and mind.

It is the grit and grind of deep bass and decomposing blown-up beats from which flowery keyboards blossom. The instrumental trio, composed of Julian Beutel, Eric Roberts and Justin Alcock, references '90s beatmakers and European electronic music, cycling between movement and meditation.

Dirty Catfish Brass Band and The Lytics take the stage for a collaborative performance on June 14 to kick off the 2024 TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival. See the two groups perform together through a reimagining of their individual repertoire and new compositions. The idea for this performance began in the studio with DCBB and Gully from The Lytics trading horns and verses on a few tracks for their albums. The two groups are excited to present this collaboration with a bigger team and on a live stage.

About Dirty Catfish Brass Band

Dirty Catfish Brass Band’s aim is to inspire, create and instigate – but, mostly, they just want you on your feet. Undeniably tight, yet reckless as hell, Dirty Catfish Brass Band deals in powerful phrasing and performances drenched with rhythm. Invoking the sounds of brass bands and funk ensembles, the collective dares to reimagine the streets of a prairie city as one that is hot, alive, and brimming with soul. Based in Winnipeg, MB, the crew strives to surprise, challenge, tickle and pay homage to the New Orleans tradition by giving it a new audience in an unsuspecting locale. From street corners to festival stages, and community celebrations to sporting events, DCBB use the power of music to bring joy to their audience. Get ready to move.

About The Lytics

Blending the group’s hard-earned 16-bar mastery, their penchant for booming, all-consuming, sometimes psychedelic beats, and a positive, upbeat attitude, The Lytics critically acclaimed live show captures the technicolour spectacle of life through hip-hop enlightened and soaring to the brightest of heights. Every performance, every record, every second with The Lytics feels like the moment people will remember as the one where the sun rose on the electrifying Winnipeg group — four brothers with clearer eyes, fuller hearts, and a more powerful command of their craft than ever before. This is hip hop in its most dazzling form: a high-octane, limb-flying force of nature. If you don’t know, you better ask somebody.
