Jazz Winnipeg Salutes Presented by the Asper Foundation
Jazz Winnipeg's 'Salutes' series at the Fort Garry Hotel pays tribute to four recently departed musical icons: the legendary guitarist Jeff Beck, Brazilian singer-songwriter Astrud Gilberto, popular song composer Burt Bacharach, and jazz crooner Tony Bennett. Each a unique and revolutionary contributor to the soundtrack of our lives, join local artists Ego Spank, Nova Brasil Collective, Jennifer Hanson, and Nadia Douglas as they pay musical tribute to these legendary performers.
About Nova Brasil Collective + The Sadler Sisters
Nova Brasil Collective is a group of experienced local musicians that share a fundamental passion for Brazilian music, particularly bossa nova. The collective was born through the minds of Osvaldo Ferraz (acoustic guitar) and Dhiego Costa (piano), two Brazilian musicians who flew from Brazil to Manitoba to study music and who now call this province home.
Following this ever-growing desire of bringing the best of Brazilian music to Canadian ears, Osvaldo and Dhiego got together with fellow Brazilian musicians who swapped Brazil’s tropical weather for friendly Manitoba, such as Emmanuel Bach (electric guitar), Leandro Saltarelli (cello) and Lucas Ferreira (bass), and also amazing born-in-Manitoba talents, Ashleigh and Elizabeth Sadler (The Sadler Sisters), Gage Salnikowski (flute/sax), and Rob Siwik (drums), to perform Brazil’s great repertoire, including Tom Jobim, Ivan Lins, Milton Nascimento and Djavan.
For this concert, Nova Brasil Collective featuring The Sadler Sisters will present a tribute to Astrud Gilberto, the eternal Girl From Ipanema. The collective will showcase Astrud’s repertoire, filled with songs by Antonio Carlos “Tom” Jobim, Marcos Valle, Roberto Menescal, and others.
