Dean of Brandon University’s School of Music, Greg Gatien, plays Resto Gare with his trio on August 30th. Greg is a tremendous saxophone player. While the rest of us are making jokes about how you get to Carnegie Hall [“Practise, man, practise!”] Greg has played there! We used to hear Greg a lot in these parts, back in the days when he was a regular with the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra. Now that his duties in Brandon have expanded, hearing Greg play in Winnipeg is a pleasure we don’t get nearly as often as we’d like.
Resto Gare’s old train station remains one of Winnipeg’s most stunning dining rooms. Historic elements like dark wood framing, grand lighting fixtures and railcar lounge speak of the building’s train station past. Scarlet drapes and elegant upholstery emanate subtle sexiness. A gigantic lipstick red booth now divides the large dining room, and the best seat to snuggle with a date is in front of the industrial-chic fireplace.
*Please note that this is not a Jazz Winnipeg event and as such we cannot answer queries about it.
