Celebrate the Jazz Age with us this summer! Jazz Winnipeg proudly presents its series of Jazz Age Garden Parties at the Dalnavert Museum. This series of six jazz and jazz-adjacent concerts updates the spirit of the Roaring Twenties for a new century this summer in Winnipeg.

Enjoy music, cocktails, light fare, and garden party activities (including croquet!) at the garden of the Dalnavert, a small Victorian mansion nestled in the heart of downtown Winnipeg.

Twenties attire and hats are encouraged. Concerts will go ahead rain or shine.

Dr. Richard Gillis currently holds the position of Artistic Director for the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, which presents a regular concert series featuring Winnipeg’s top jazz musicians and performs with guest artists from around the world. Some of the guests he has worked with include Bob Brookmeyer, Rufus Reid, Bert Joris, John Riley, Dick Oatts, and many others.

Dr. Gillis has recorded eight CDs with Icelandic guitarist Björn Thoroddsen, with whom he has performed in Iceland, Canada and the United States.

He joined the faculty of music at the University of Manitoba in 1991, and contributed greatly to the development of the U of M Jazz Band and jazz education courses. He held the position of Jazz Area Coordinator and oversaw the big bands until 2003. Currently he teaches courses including Brass Techniques and Major Practical Study and holds the position of Brass Area Coordinator.
