Venue Spotlight: The Good Will Social Club

The Good Will Social Club is a bar, venue, eatery, and coffee shop located in Winnipeg’s West End. With the goal of providing a home away from home for Winnipeg’s art and music scene, The Good Will is a space where you can easily discover the best in local, national, and international music while enjoying a cold beer or a hot bite to eat. They have over twelve craft beers on tap – including local brewers Half Pints – and an in-house lunch counter and late-night food counter, Have A Nice Day. Their menu is diverse and draws from regional and international classics, including vegan and vegetarian options, that will satiate any craving.

This year we have six days of shows at The Good Will between Tuesday, June 19 and Sunday, June 24. Tuesday, June 19 features Leeds-based riot grrl duo Kamikaze Girls. Front woman Lucinda Livingstone and drummer Conor Dawson, through honest lyrics and a wide range of musical influences, from shoegaze, fuzz-pop, and the heavier side of the genre-spectrum they call home, challenge attitudes and taboos surrounding mental health. On Wednesday, June 20 you can catch Polaris Music Prize nominee Cadence Weapon, hailed as Canada’s “most creative rapper” by the National Post. Named Edmonton’s Poet Laureate in 2009, his music incorporates elements of trap, funk, electro, techno and grime. Come down to catch the man in action at 10pm – you won’t be sorry.

Our highly anticipated Twin Peaks theme night is taking place Thursday, June 21 at 10pm and features local favourites Sc Mira as the Roadhouse Band in a tribute to the to the wonderfully weird and jazzy world of Angelo Badalamenti. Check out “A Violent Yet Flammable World” from Twin Peaks here:

Friday, June 22 features Brooklyn-based group, Alsarah + The Nubatones. Fronted by Sudanese singer-songwriter Alsarah, the group has developed a unique East-African retro-pop sound. After their 9:30pm set you can catch Winnipeg’s own DJ Vothra at 11:30pm, spinning an energetic set. Alsarah + The Nubatones perform “Ya Watan” here:

On Saturday, June 23 you can catch six-piece rock n’ roll band The Wet Secrets. Known for their signature red and white marching band uniforms and harmonious layers of horns, synthesizers, booming bass lines, percussion, drums, and voice, they have a well-established reputation for a phenomenal, sweaty live show. They’re playing with Winnipeg’s own Duotang and Odd Outfit – so this is guaranteed to be a night you won’t want to miss. Get a glimpse of what’s in store:
