WOODY HOLLER & HIS ORCHESTRA
Woody Holler and His Orchestra are purveyors of western swing music—“jazz from the saddle” with clever arrangements, rich in virtuosity and style. From a childhood spent listening to cowboy songs, Woody later trained in opera, but kept a sense of nostalgia that held him close to the early western genre. Consisting of some of Canada’s finest folk-jazz musicians, his Orchestra features Greg Lowe on guitar, Richard Moody on violin, and Danny Koulack on bass. The repertoire is eclectic, fun, and fascinating, featuring finger-snapping swing beats, honey-slowed love croons, and showstopping “extreme” yodeling. Their first album, Western Skies was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award in 2010. Since then, the band has successfully toured all across Canada and Woody’s yodel has been heard on the Pacific coast, Northwest Territories, Atlantic provinces, and even north of the Arctic Circle. Woody Holler and His Orchestra bring back the 1940s radio show with a sound that is nostalgic, yet thrilling. Saddle up.
