Jazz on Wheels features a 9-piece band of professional musicians performing for free from the back of a travelling “rolling stage,” which is actually a flatbed truck donated by of one of our community partners, Maxim Truck and Trailer. Bringing live music into the community, the program provides today’s urban youth with positive artistic experiences, helping them to discover new creative outlets and to develop a life-long appreciation for jazz.

Jazz on Wheels is the vision of Steve Kirby, director of jazz studies at the University of Manitoba’s faculty of music. He is also acts as the artistic director and band leader of Jazz on Wheels.

Jazz Winnipeg continues it’s mission to be a leader in furthering an appreciation of jazz music through presentations, promotion and outreach programs such as Jazz on Wheels.
