Land Of Talk’s former-punk frontwoman Elizabeth Powell emerged from Guelph’s anti-folk scene to create one of the most buzzy, brashy indie-rock acts in Montreal. Despite multiple lineup changes, post-tour fatigue, and a vocal polyp that crushed her ability to sing, the enigmatic songwriter has collaborated with members of Arcade Fire, Stars, and the Besnard Lakes and been long listed for the Polaris Prize. Her new EP, Life After Youth for Dine Alone Records, is her “homecoming to Montreal”—recorded in Breakglass Studios with Besnard Lakes’ Jace Lacek, who recorded the band’s first album. Life After Youth is the band’s first release in 7 years—a triumphant comeback that hurtles towards the great unknown with pleading vocals, incessant synth pulses, and ominous intensity.
