The Keith Price Double Quartet is an adventurous eight-piece that explores jazz improvisation through the vehicles of groove and rhythm. The group debuted in 2013 with a spontaneous film scoring of the classic western film, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly for Jazz Winnipeg’s Nu Sounds Series. In addition to drawing influence from Miles Davis’s electric jazz period, the group also incorporates elements of electronica and world music. Playing on his grandfather’s old guitar, Price was first influenced by pop music, punk rock, and heavy metal before discovering jazz at age fifteen. He began his formal studies at The Conservatory of Amsterdam before studying with local jazz guitar guru Larry Roy at The University of Manitoba. Price has released five albums: Live at 101.5 UMFM (2015), Double Quartet (2015), Solo Guitar (2013), Gaia/Goya (2011), and Breakfast of Champions (2009). For the 2017 festival, the Double Quartet will perform material from their new album, released April 2017.
