Paul’s interest in jazz music was first sparked by his junior high music teacher Jeff Kula and, under the tutelage of Janice Finlay and Ken Gold, Paul developed his own personality on saxophone. Paul received his Master’s in Performance at the University of Manitoba under the direction of Steve Kirby and performed throughout Winnipeg with the likes of Ron Paley, Larry Roy, the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, and Moses Mayes. With Moses Mayes, Paul toured Canada five times, performing at the Montreal Jazz Festival and opening for Herbie Hancock in Saskatoon. After finishing his degree, Paul has been pursuing a full-time music career in Toronto. He has been welcomed in the Toronto music scene and has had the opportunity to play with a number of artists, including KC Roberts and the Live Revolution, The Café Ole, Max Senitt Y Sus Amigos, and the Composers’ Collective Big Band. Paul is also working with his brother Scott on their own project, MBGP. Paul’s show at this year’s festival will feature Ron Paley on keys, Julian Bradford on bass, and Curtis Nowosad on drums.
