Comfortably settled in his new home of Winnipeg, Marco Castillo has quickly become one of the city’s busiest musicians, bringing his blend of Brazilian, jazz, and funk music to club and concert hall audiences. Building on the success his 2008 CD, Brazilian Season, Castillo has now established regular gigs at many venues in town, always packed with music fans and musical collaborators. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Marco was raised in a musical family. Influenced by his father, an accomplished musician and composer himself, Marco quickly determined that music would be his path. By 20, he was recording and touring throughout Brazil with the Iraquitan Trio. A stint with Rio’s famous Guio de Morais Orchestra was followed by work with artists such as Marcio Montarroyos, Rosa Marya Colin, and Banda Black Rio. Castillo brought his family and passion for Brazilian music to the much less frantic Winnipeg in 2006 and immediately saw a place for himself in the broad musical scene. Since his arrival he has performed with the best musicians in the city, from Steve Kirby to Ron Paley, sharing his vibrant and energetic music with anyone and everyone.
