Formed in New York in the spring of 2005, Ravens & Chimes started as a group of school friends who got together to record two songs written by singer and guitarist Asher Lack. Figuring they would break up after recording, plans changed when CMJ heard the demos (originally called Lost at Sea) and invited them to play their festival. The band played a few more shows, lost and gained members, and in the spring (less than a year after the recording) Asher passed a demo to a friend of his at a party which landed them a recording contract with Grey Rock / Better Looking Records. The group weaves a magical blend of eclectic instrumentation, ear-grabbing percussion, and superb musicianship. Among the instruments used to build each of their songs are the mandolin, glockenspiel, harmonium, and a handmade theremin, resulting in a carnival of sights and sounds oozing with effervescent ambience. Their debut album, Reichenbach Falls, encompasses the raw quality of youth in a split open-heart combination of first lust, disappointment, and self-doubt.
