Pianist Will Bonness, along with bassist Julian Bradford and drummer Curtis Nowosad, has been pushing the boundaries of the Winnipeg jazz scene for several years. Lately, these three young musicians can also be found performing across the country and with such groups as the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, the Steve Kirby/Larry Roy Quartet, and Papa Mambo. In their newly-formed trio, they will explore original and popular songs infused with sounds and beats from around the world. Though grounded in the jazz tradition, the trio has become increasingly interested in incorporating fresh sounds from many sources into their compositions and arrangements. In addition to piano, Will’s palette will include a variety of synthesized sounds and textures. Curtis will explore a variety of beats and percussive effects while Julian holds everything together in the bass. The trio loves to blend new and old sounds, and within a performance you can expect to hear anything from bebop to hip hop to avant garde.
