Internationally renowned nuevo flamenco guitarist Jesse Cook is thrilled to announce the dates of his 2010 cross-Canada tour. The announcement comes fresh off the release of his new album The Rumba Foundation (EMI Music Canada), a journey of musical rediscovery bringing Cook’s rumba flamenco sound back to its birthplace in Cuba and adding a fresh twist of regional fusions. Cook draws heavily from the Colombian Vallenato style on songs including "Bogota by Bus" and "Santa Marta" and in his collaborations with Latin Grammy Award-winning group Los Gaiteros.

The Rumba Foundation is just the latest chapter in a celebrated, eclectic, and increasingly international career. Educated in jazz and classical guitar and imbued with gypsy flavour, Cook has released six critically acclaimed studio albums. His first album Tempest entered the American Billboard charts at #14 in 1995, while Free Fall won him the Canadian music industry’s Juno Award for Best Instrumental Album in 2001. A particularly outstanding achievement, Acoustic Guitar Magazine named Cook the 2009 Players’ Choice Award silver medalist after Spanish virtuoso Paco de Lucía.

As much as he appreciates industry recognition, Cook never loses sight of his music-loving supporters. “I am always so humbled to hear the enthusiasm from my fans surrounding my new material and performances.  The Rumba Foundation is a new direction for me, and I am really looking forward to having people hear it,” says Cook.  “This fall I’m heading to the United States and overseas to tour, but I really can’t wait for the New Year. It’s always so rewarding to tour here in Canada.”

On September 25, Cook hosted the world premier of The Rumba Foundation on Smooth Jazz, 94.7 The WAVE in Los Angeles. The following night, Cook brought an enthusiastic audience of thousands to its feet during WaveFest at the city’s venerable Greek Theater.

For Cook, Los Angeles was just the beginning of an eventful autumn: on September 30, he will depart on the 23-city U.S. leg of his tour, followed by international tour dates throughout November and December, including stops in Malta, Sardinia, Ireland, Poland and Turkey.  The Canadian tour begins on March 4, 2010 in Kitchener, ON and will take Cook coast to coast, from Charlottetown, PEI, to Victoria, British Columbia!
