The Harmattan is a dusty trade wind that blows across West Africa, and right through Nigeria – birthplace of Ismaila Alfa. Harmattan is also a creative gust of a record – a stomping, riffing, grooving hip hop album unlike anything that’s blown out of Winnipeg before. Alfa’s voice weaves throughout Harmattan while powerful personal messages play against tongue-in-cheek observations of North American society in all its forms: privileged, passionate, racist, full of opportunities to both succeed and fall through the cracks.
