2OOLMAN of A TRIBE CALLED RED
Hip hop artist and producer Tim “2oolman” Hill is a member of Aboriginal electronic DJ crew, A Tribe Called Red, which emerged from Ottawa’s “Electric Pow Pow” dance scene. The group’s music is often called “powwow-step,” a style blending First Nations drumming and chanting with instrumental hip hop, reggae and dubstep. The result is a highly-danceable mix that reflects on the relationship between urban and rez life. 2oolman and his crew have played sold out gigs across the world, received two nominations for the Polaris Prize in 2012 and 2013, and have written a song for Idle No More, one of Canada’s largest indigenous protest movements.
