One of the most thrilling things about the Jazz Festival is getting to help people discover new artists that they’re just as excited about as we are. One of the new voices we’re enthused about bringing to this year’s Jazz Festival is none other than smouldering jazz siren, rising R&B star Andra Day. Not only does she have a chill-inducing voice and a striking look, but Day has an inspiring story too.

While everyone seems to be buzzing about Ms. Day, it might seem that she has just appeared out of relative obscurity to be nominated for GRAMMY awards, perform with Ellie Goulding on the GRAMMY stage, and be headlining festivals across North America. Andra Day is about to be literally everywhere with her soon-to-be ubiquitous face to be featured on tens of millions of Coca-Cola cups this summer.

Andra Day outlines her journey to fame and celebrates other black women making their dreams come true, in her new film project I Rise. In the trailer below, her share in her own words the struggles she had overcome, her inspiration, all of the jobs she had while trying to “make it”, and what brought her that big break.
