Just in case you hadn’t heard us singing it all over town — we’re extremely proud to be presenting Kamasi Washington in Winnipeg as part of our 2016 TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival lineup. It seems like in the past month Washington’s star has more than risen, it’s lighting up the entire sky. March kicked off with a bang for the saxophonist and bandleader, who was awarded the inaugural American Music Prize — given out to the best debut album of  the previous year — for The Epic. We’re not the only ones who are incredibly stoked on the things Kamasi has been doing and what he has up his sleeve next, he’s been getting buzz from what seems like just about every corner of the internet and the media world.

Here’s a little roundup of the press he’s racked up over the past week or so:

Washington’s big sounds, bold vision, and palpable soulfulness have been winning him fans with all kinds audiences, just as much as they have with critics — this isn’t just a show for the seasoned jazz aficionado. Are you as excited as we are yet? We thought you’d be. You can grab tickets for Kamasi’s June 21st show at The Burton Cummings Theatre over at Ticketmaster or nab yourself a Super Pass, which will get you into every single show and venue during the festival — including Kamasi Washington and Tedeschi Trucks Band. Either way, we definitely don’t recommend missing out on an opportunity to see Kamasi this June and experiencing what everyone’s talking about firsthand.
